Bibliopolis Publications, from Germany, are based on an
interdisciplinary concept. The study of antiquity is a strong point of their
publishing programme, while they also have a special interest in the history of
modern Greece and Cyprus. Moreover, they publish monographs on cultural and
intellectual history.
Οι εκδόσεις Bibliopolis, από τη Γερμανία, ακολουθούν μια φιλοσοφία όπου διάφορες

The papers published in this volume refer
to many aspects of Cypriote archaeology: the influences from neighbouring
countries in religious as well as social matters, the relations between Cyprus
and Crete concerning cult activity, the significance of percussion instruments
in cult and ritual, burial practices (with special regard to aristocratic
burials), head-shaping as an indicator of social conventions, vase-painting (the
Amathus style), scenes of everyday life (especially in coroplastic art),
peculiarities of Cypriote sculpture concerning structure and iconography, the
connection between religion and copper production, loom-weights as possible
indicators of ethnic migration, cooking and storage vessels and their social
significance, banquets as part of a Mediterranean koine, and stamp-seals and
their various functions.
Thetis
Thetis, the Bibliopolis journal edited by Reinhard Stupperich
(University of Heidelberg) and Heinz A. Richter (University of Mannheim), has
been conceived as an
interdisciplinary publication. It deals with Greek and Cypriot history and art
history, from ancient times to the present, as one period of time, thus helping
us deepen our knowledge and understanding.

This study, one of the few classics on the Cyprus Problem,
was one of the first to spell out how modern ideological politics affected a
rural community in a post-colonial state. While giving his lively first-hand
account of a single village, Loizos is compelled to place the political
processes he documents within the wider context of national and international
politics. The Greek military dictatorship (1967-74) casts its shadow over these
pages as it recruits young villagers to overthrow their elected President, while
Cold War rivalries between NATO and the USSR also play their part.

This work, which draws on official British documents and interviews, casts light
on the actions of the United Kingdom and the different roles it played during
the Cyprus Crisis of 1963-64. The book also shows that the 1963-64 Crisis is
profoundly important for two other reasons. First of all, it was during these
months that the Greek Cypriots were accorded international legitimacy as the
Government of the Republic of Cyprus, partly as a requirement of international
peacemaking and peacekeeping. Secondly, this period saw the acceptance by the
international community of the legality of the Treaty of Guarantee. As a result,
Turkey retained an internationally accepted constitutional right to intervene in
the island’s affairs.

συνεντεύξεις, ρίχνει φως στις κινήσεις της Βρετανίας και τους διάφορους ρόλους

Arts and Humanities at the University of North London in collaboration with

The continuous development and production of grave reliefs on the island began
at the end of the 7th century BC and continued well into the 3rd century AD,
exhibiting its own character from the beginning. Their characteristic forms and
types as well as their individual style require an independent approach, which
is therefore the reason why these grave reliefs should not only be examined in
relation to their Greek counterparts. Over the centuries Cypriot sculptors
developed their own tradition, continuously assimilating influences from
neighbouring cultural landscapes.
This dissertation is the first of its kind, analyzing in
detail the grave reliefs of Cyprus from the Archaic to the Roman period and
summarizing the partly unpublished material curated in several museums
throughout the world.
Η συνεχής εξέλιξη και παραγωγή ταφικών ανάγλυφων στο νησί ξεκίνησε γύρω στο
τέλος του 7ου αιώνα π.Χ. και συνεχίστηκε μέχρι και τον 3ον αιώνα μ.Χ., από την
αρχή με ένα δικό της χαρακτήρα. Οι χαρακτηριστικές μορφές και τύποι όπως και το
μοναδικό πρότυπο τους απαιτούν μια ανεξάρτητη προσέγγιση, και γι’ αυτό το λόγο
δεν πρέπει να εξετάζονται μόνο σε σχέση με τα ελληνικά ταφικά ανάγλυφα. Μέσα
στους αιώνες, οι Κύπριοι γλύπτες δημιούργησαν τη δική τους παράδοση,
αφομοιώνοντας συνεχώς επιρροές από γειτονικούς πολιτισμούς.
Η μελέτη αυτή είναι η πρώτη στο είδος της, που αναλύει με λεπτομέρεια τα ταφικά

original texts of the 1960 Treaties on Cyprus signed in Nicosia on 16 August
1960. It is supplemented by selected subsequent Acts related to the Treaty of
Establishment of the Republic of Cyprus.
This publication seeks to be a reference work on the fundamental treaties giving
birth to the Republic of Cyprus as well as subsequent acts dealing with specific
aspects related to Cyprus and the European Community. For those interested in
the 2002 UN Secretary General Plan for a Comprehensive Settlement of the Cyprus
Problem, the collection of treaties and acts will prove a useful reference
companion.
The treaties, designated collectively as the 1960 Treaties on Cyprus, consist of
the three treaties signed on 16 August 1960, the lesser-known Treaty of
Alliance, which along with the 14 Exchanges of Notes between the United Kingdom
and Cyprus form the international agreements on which the Republic of Cyprus is
founded.

που επιμελήθηκε ο Νικόλαος Δ. Μακρής, Πρέσβης. Το έργο παρουσιάζει την πλήρη
σειρά των Κυπριακών κειμένων των Συνθηκών που υπεγράφησαν στη Λευκωσία την 16η
Αυγούστου 1960. Το έργο συμπληρώνεται από επιλεγμένες μεταγενέστερες Πράξεις που
σχετίζονται με τη Συνθήκη Εγκαθιδρύσεως.
Η έκδοση αποβλέπει στο να καταστεί έργο αναφοράς για τις ιδρυτικές Συνθήκες της
Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας όπως επίσης και σ’ ότι αφορά τις Πράξεις στα πλαίσια της
