Kostas Papavassilis Waxmann, Schriften des Instituts für Interdisziplinäre Zypern-Studien, 2007, ISBN 978383091934, pp. 224, p/b, large format, CY£/ € This catalogue is a documentation of our collection, complemented by some geographical and historical information. Great effort has been made to the correct identification of all maps and illustrations, but this catalogue remains the work of an enthusiastic private collector. Historians or experts in engraving and printing history and techniques could not be employed. No travels to libraries and museums all over the world could be undertaken to compare different editions of atlases and maps. Of greatest help were Andreas and Judith Stylianou's History of the Cartography of Cyprus and the catalogues by the Cultural Foundation of the Bank of Cyprus regarding its collection of historical maps and atlases (cf. bibliography page 220). Additionally, much time was spent on internet research to verify and complete the information. Thus, I hope that despite its limitations this volume will be a respectable contribution to the publications on cartography and engravings of Cyprus throughout the centuries. (Kostas Papavassilis)

Included in the publication are 577 coins which are presented separately in nine chronological periods corresponding to equal number of chapters: (a) Cyprus city-kingdoms (sixth - fourth century BC); (b) Hellenistic period (334 - 30 BC); (c) Roman period (30 BC - AD 330); (d) Byzantine period (330 - 1191); (e) Frankish rule (1192 - 1489); (f) Venetian rule (1489 - 1571); (g) Ottoman rule (1571 - 1878); (h) British rule (1878 - 1960); (i) Republic of Cyprus (1960 onwards). Each chapter, consists of a brief summary introduction, and a catalogue of coins with colour photographs. At the end of the book there are tables of the coins in their actual size. Also included are two annexes, a general index, a subject index, and a bibliography.

Transcription of the Italian original: Agamemnon Tselikas AdVenture Publications, Athens, 2006, ISBN: 9789608779228, pp.300, h/b, d/j, large format, CY£ The present edition of Antonio Millo's ISOLARIO. in the original in the original language in which it was written, medieval Italian, together with translation of the text into both Greek and English, is in the fact the first edition of the text in its entirety. This edition is based on a manuscript from the private collection of Mrs. Sylvia Ioannou, a manuscript that, according to the palaeographical evidence, is one of the oldest manuscripts of Millo's text, dating from the close to the period of the author's life, if not transcribed while he was still alive.

Danielle A. Parks Cyprus Numismatic Soceity, Nicosia, 2004, ISBN: 9963907008, pp.316, h/b, CY£26.25 This study of the Roman coinage of Cyprus had its inception in a project entitled The Roman Coins of Cyprus undertaken at the American Numismatic Society during the summer of 1989. It was subsequently developed into my Master's thesis for the University of Missouri-Columbia (1991), The Roman Coinage of Cyprus, by incorporating new material and with the addition of the discussion of the coinage, both local and imported, that was in use in Cyprus during the Roman period. During the fall of 2000, Mr. Andreas Pitsillides of the Cyprus Numismatic Society and Dr. Michael Mctcalf of the Ashmolean Museum, approached me with an offer to publish the study as a monograph. I have since updated the text, changing some of my original conclusions in view of more recent discoveries, and greatly expanded the catalogue, most importantly with the addition of newly excavated material. 1 am particularly grateful to Professor Demetrios Michaelides for permitting me to include the finds from the House of Orpheus. As more work is completed on the Roman coinage of Cyprus, the picture will continue to evolve. The minting and circulation of Roman
coinage in Cyprus has not been subjected to exhaustive study as of yet. The
evidence can be divided into two main constituents: the coins minted in or for
Cyprus, and all coins circulating within the province during Roman times. There
is the additional matter of countermark ing. This volume seeks to address all of
these concerns, covering the period from Augustus until the reign of Diocletian.
I have selected this time bracket as the nature of Roman coinage in general
undergoes a great transformation during the fourth century AD, and that would be
the subject for another book.
