The Blue Whale is a novel which describes the feelings of a displaced Greek Cypriot. It tries to illustrate thestruggle of a simple man against  the injustices of our contemporary world, his fears about  nuclear  armaments and his hopes for a brighter future. Rina Catselli was born in Kyrenia, in 1938, and lived there till the Turkish invasion – July 1974 – when she was forced to flee along with the rest of the Greek Cypriots of Kyrenia, who left behind all their belongings. Her books, including creative writing and historical research, are all centered around Kyrenia and her people.
