Anna Marangou / Andreas G. Coutas Nicosia, 2005, ISBN: 9963909116, a lot of color photographs, pp.155, p/b, CY£12.60 (Also edition in Greek) This book is a debt to the town that raised me and which today, in the 21st century, lies empty, desolate and in ruins, abandoned to sun and wind and to the foolishness of man. It is also a book dedicated and indebted to the people of Famagusta, who are now scattered across the island, but also to those who have Left - to George Pol. Georghiou, Evangelos Louizos, Kyriacos Hadjioannou and PanayiotisSerghis. Finally, it is a book of debt and love to the memory of my father and uncle, with whom I took my first steps along the path of history. Mediaeval Famagusta is what is most precious and symbolic in Cyprus today. It is the apogee and the fall, wealth and destitution, desire and passion -with the difference that it is the sandstone that tells this living story, it is the memories that have become one with the stones, the earth, the shuddering of frescoes and human dreams. This book came into being in 2003, following the opening of the checkpoints. Friend and photographer Andreas Coutas captured the buildings' present state. I am especially thankful to Turkish Cypriot archaeologist Tuncer Bagiskan, whose help in securing photographs of monuments now languishing in military zones, where photography is prohibited, was invaluable. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the sponsor of this publication, Adonis Papadopoulos, and Interarient Navigation Co Ltd for their generosity and the trust they have shown in me and my proposal. Cyprus culture is in need of real, tangible support. May our land see better days in the years to come, and may my town one day regain the glory and radiance she once had. (Preface by Anna G. Marangou)
Sequel to the best-selling Back of Beyond, this talking book takes a look at the years during which author Sheila and artist Harry Hawkins built their dream home and integrated into the local community in a remote Akamas village.

Macleod P M Publications, Dublin, 2000, pp.143, p/b, £5 [sole distributor] The
story of Macleod and her husband’s “not quite by chance” encounter with
Cyprus in the early seventies and the following twenty-five years of what she
calls her “love affair” with the island, ‘Of Villages and Vines’ is a
highly personal account of life as a frequent visitor to Cyprus. There are
several colour photographs illustrating the text, all taken by the author’s
husband, Roger Macleod.

MacHugh Rimal
Publications, Cyprus, 1999, pp.293, p/b, £7 An
account of the personal experiences of MacHugh as he travelled throughout Cyprus
over a three year period, visiting all the places of major cultural and
historical interest on the island, both north and south. Stories of, monasteries
and Byzantine churches blend in with those of ‘gatecrashing’ a reception for
the President’s daughter and praying to local saints for deliverance. Warm,
light-hearted and well written, a great alternative guide to the island of
Cyprus.
