Description
A contribution of the A. G. Leventis Gallery to the European Capital of Culture – Pafos2017: An ode to Cyprus’ absolute – and enigmatic – goddess through a series of events in various fields, including literature, dance, theatre and contemporary Cypriot artistic creation. The Cypriot Venus, goddess of mortals and immortals, comes to life through the art of the great masters from the Renaissance to the Baroque and from Realism to Impressionism and beyond. Entitled “The Venus Paradox”, this exhibition focuses on Venus as mother, woman, mistress and seductress, amidst love, life and death – through enticing stories of passion, envy, strife and deception.
